Final Images

I really enjoy the following images alone as they are, however I am looking to use the form of the flowers to digitally construct a new form. I want to cut out the flowers from the backgrounds and layer them over each other on top of a simple gray tone background to create possibly the form of a dress, using multiple images to create a single image.

Recreation 5

The Original
ErasingCalculating4a by: Teun Hocks
Biography: 1947 born in Leiden, Holland, Ausbildung Academy voor Beeldende, Kunsten, Breda, 2008
Significance: He will digitally color his black and white negatives and will play with constructed realities that are hard to believe, yet connectable in ideals and feelings.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: I think the idea in this photo is that you work hard on one thing, and later find it useless and erase it from your mind. Also I think it is about the two-sidedness that one person can hold within themselves.
Method: He took two photos of himself in different positions to create this image.
Motivations: He wanted to convey the feeling of defeating your own hard work.
Your Opinion: I love this photo because as a college student I have felt exactly this way myself on many occasions.

My Recreation
Composition: I wanted a similarly balanced construction, but I did not have a space similar to his.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: I looked at college life and portrayed the different personalities of someone who is both into school and into sports. Sometimes something that is seen as contradictory itself.

Project 4

Part 1
Composition: I cropped the photo to only show the sky and clouds.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: I wanted to play with the fact that the billboard may blend into the sky in the right weather, and stand out against it as a window to another sky in other weather.
Method: I created an HDR photo to place over a billboard, that would emulate the sky.
Motivations: I wanted to play with the fact that it is sky juxtaposed to sky.
Context: This is more cultural, a piece on the fact that there are so many billboards that it makes it hard to see the sky, and I wanted to make it so that they would also be part of the sky as well.

Part 1
Composition: I wanted to position the candle in the center and leave the fork to lead your eye off to the right so as to read the text there.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: I wanted to create a playful ad for Beanpod Soy Candles. I also wanted to play with the fact that the scents are so close to the wonderful food that they are named after.
Method: I used natural lighting since the product is all natural and a tripod to keep the camera still for the longer exposure.
Motivations: I wanted to create a fun ad.
Context: This is somewhat cultural since it is an ad based image with words promoting a product.

Finals for Project 3!

Part 1
Composition: I wanted to focus on the fragile thin flowering plant set against the large rigid greenhouse and large tree.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: I wanted to focus on the beauty that can be found outside of the greenhouses instead of what we are used to seeing on the inside.
Method: I used flash to help capture detail in the flower since it was overcast.
Motivations: I wanted to capture how delicate the flower was compared to the greenhouse.
Context: I'm looking at the greater picture of beauty and how it is perceived. Most people think of the flowers in the greenhouse, not the ones growing outside of the greenhouse.
Part 2
Interpretation: The overall idea wasn't quite there, but they noticed how fragile the flower was.
Evaluation: I did not get the overall idea of comparison to work, possibly because it is hard to see that it is a greenhouse behind it.
Extension: I would love to do a series on the intricacies of flowers.

Part 1
Composition: I wanted to focus on the reflective properties in the water for this piece.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: This is one of those groves of trees just on the other side of a busy road, nobody really wonders what beauty they actually hold inside.
Method: I used flash, but could not capture the detail I wanted, however I was able to recall a lot of information using camera raw.
Motivations: I wanted to capture the beauty that most people will never see, the beauty in the world left to mother nature herself.
Context: I'm trying to show the beauty in places that people don't normally see.
Part 2
Interpretation: There wasn't much conversation on this photo.
Evaluation: I didn't get much feedback on this photo.
Extension: I could do more pieces focusing on reflective properties.

Part 1
Composition: I wanted to focus on the flower and still have the contrast of the dark green background from the trees behind it as well.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: I wanted to portray how soft the flower was and how gentle the petals were.
Method: I used flash to help capture detail in the flower since it was overcast.
Motivations: I wanted to capture how the flower felt.
Context: I'm looking simply at the form and feel of the flower itself.
Part 2
Interpretation: This photo received the best feedback out of all four. They loved the texture and softness of the petals.
Evaluation: The idea definitely was received, and I could not have been happier with the reviews.
Extension: I would love to do a series on the intricacies of flowers.

Part 1
Composition: I wanted to blend the building into nature.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: I wanted to portray the fact that greenhouses are made to emulate nature.
Method: I used the cloudy day to my advantage and blew out part of the roof into the sky.
Motivations: I wanted to capture how greenhouses emulate nature.
Context: I wanted to speak on how good greenhouses really are and how much they do emulate nature.
Part 2
Interpretation: The over all idea wasn't quite received, however the over all aesthetics were picked up on.
Evaluation: The context may need some tweaking, however the over all idea was partially there.
Extension: I could do a whole series on greenhouses blending into nature.

Recreation 4

This photo is very well known through the US and I loved the simple colors and how they conveyed space and depth.

I wanted to recreate the space and depth in the photo above with my own identity.
